2009 Picks Rules and Directions.

This document has been created to be used as a guideline and issue resolve for the Beta testing of a Football Picks program for 2009. It will continue to amended and changed as needed due to changes in the season or the programming. Not all things in this document are currently in use and may be future programming changes.

The First Rule of Football Picks is you never talk about Football Picks.

1.WARNING: This site and programming are still in a Testing (beta) stage. Users are warned that changes to the appearance, code and structures of the site and programming can change at any time.

2.Users are to user their own ID and password to enter their picks. An ID will be issued at the beginning of the season along with a generic password. This will prompt the user to enter his own password.

3.Picks will be entered by using the Picks page.

  • a. The game will be displayed with the team helmets with a box underneath with ‘???’ inside. Click on the team you think will win or click on the box marked ‘Tie’. When clicked the box will change to ‘Win’ with the other box changing to ‘Lose’. If ‘Tie’s is chosen, all boxes will say ‘Tie’.
  • b. A ‘confidence point’ needs to be entered for the game.
The Range of points will depend on the pool and Number of games in that week.
Pro - 16-1 for weeks with 16 games.
16-2 for weeks with 15 games.
16-3 for weeks with 14 games.
16-4 for weeks with 13 games.
College - 16-1 for weeks with 16 games.
Bowl - 34-1 for all games. This may change if more bowls are added.
Playoff - 5,10,15,20 for weeks with 4 games.(WildCard and Divsional Games)
20,30 for weeks with 2 games.(Conference Championship Games)
50 for weeks with 1 games. (Super Bowl)
No confidence point may be used more than once.
  • c. On the final game of the week (Usually, Monday Night), a tie breaker score will need to be entered. This is the total for the two teams playing that game. This will be used to determine a weekly winner if the points and Number of wins are tied. The player closest without going over will be declared the winner.
  • 4.Picks must be made and saved before Kickoff of the first game of the playing week (Usually 10:00 Pacific Sunday Morning). The only exceptions will be when there are games on Thursdays morning (0930) and nights(1720), and Saturday mornings (1000,0930). Changes to this rule may change to due programming in the future.
If you miss picking a Thursday game, you can still pick for the rest of the week until the week cutoff. But you will have your 10 point pick assigned to the Thursday game and it will be set as a tie. With the low probability of ties in the NFL there is a very low chance of actually scoring that game.

5.Scoring-For every correct pick the points assigned will be added to the weekly and ytd totals. The Number of correct and incorrect picks will also be totaled. A winner will be determined first by the person with the highest point total. If there is a tie, the next tiebreak will be the Number of correct picks. If there is still a tie the Monday Night tiebreaker score will be used. The winner will be the one with closest total score without going over. If still tied, both players will receive credit for a weekly win.

Year To Date winner will be determined in a similar manner. First the player with the greatest Number of points. If still tied, the player with greater amount of correct picks. Third tiebreaker will be Number of weeks won. Fourth tiebreaker will be Number of times closer to the Monday night score.
